To begin with, each group had to present a chapter of the
book that was assigned, and to be honest, each group achieved the main
objective, which was the understanding of their audience. I would like to start
by giving my opinion on what I liked the most about the presentations and what
I learned the most. According to group one, they presented chapter 3, which was
about intercultural communication; the truth is that I really enjoyed this
presentation since group one explained to us about the different cultures in
our society, such as religion, gender and sex, socioeconomic status, generation,
and age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, chronic, and more.
Something that caught my attention was that some members of the group used
examples from their daily lives for our understanding. In my opinion, I feel
that the presentation of group one was very well organized, and apart from the
information that was on each slide, it helped me to understand even more about
the subject, and it was not only that, but rather they made me analyze the
situation that is happening. around the world about sexual orientation,
religious beliefs, and the different cultures in humanity and how many people
discriminate against many individuals simply because they cannot accept the
fact that they are not equal to them, that we are all equal, and we are all
human, and we have the right to have our beliefs, cultures and sexual
orientation. Continuing with the presentation of group two, which is the group
I'm working with, we had to talk about communication in groups. This chapter is
very interesting as it teaches us how to achieve respectful and healthy
communication. Each theme had two members, and in that case, up to three, I
feel that we did well, and we managed to inform our audience on how to achieve
effective communication in a group of society and how to work as a team. In
this chapter, we talk about what are the characteristics of a healthy group and
how to form a group according to the stages. Something that seemed interesting
to me was that this chapter helped me understand the importance of norms and
rules in a social group and what the consequences would be if those norms were
broken by any member. We also talk about how to fix conflicts between group
members, healthy groups tend to work faster and achieve their goals more easily
than a group that doesn't know how to stand out and how to set goals that are
hard for them to achieve. Another thing I really enjoyed about our presentation
was sections 9.3a - 9.3e because the examples they used were about superheroes
like the Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Defenders and how each
group has its own rules. and strategies to achieve his main goal, which is to
help and save the world. They also used examples of musical groups such as one
direction. Even though we didn't have enough time to present, I feel like we
did our best. Additionally, I feel that this chapter helped us to work as a
team and how to have excellent communication. Moving on to the third and last
group, which I present in Chapter 10, group leadership and problem-solving.
Basically, they explained to us how to carry out task roles, effective
meetings, systematic problem solving and its steps, communication of solutions
between groups, group dynamics, leadership, etc. I liked the presentation of
group three, but I feel that they need to put more striking images and videos to
better learning of the audience. If they had put some videos where they
explained more about the chapter as well as more striking photos. But
otherwise, I liked that they explained each section in detail, but what
interested me the most was how they explained in detail the six steps of
systematic problem solving, which helped me better understand the importance of
each social group following these steps to have a better strategy to solve
problems and aside it is very useful to put it to the test in daily life. Apart
from this, the difference between written formats and oral formats was
interesting. It was interesting how Shelsia Aragon explained the difference
between the two formats and their characteristics between them. I really
identified with the virtual formats section, where Sebastian Hilder explained
the use of visual formats and how to test it in social groups. As I just
mentioned before, I feel very identify with visual formats because they
actually attract me since I am a visual learner, and it is easy for me to learn
visually. For example, I'm studying architecture, and in fact, now I'm taking
the construction materials class where we have to use machines to cut wood and
different types of materials, and the truth is I've learned a lot in a short
time because everything they teach us to do it is through a visual format. In
conclusion, each group did very well, and I feel that each one achieved its
goal. The truth is that the group that caught my attention the most and I
agreed with the examples and information that they explained to us was group
one. They explained and clearly informed us about the importance of different
cultures and why we must respect the beliefs of each person since the important
thing is that they are happy with themselves. Additionally, I really liked the
interaction they had with the audience and how they engaged them over time.
However, each performance was unique, and each group gave their all to have an
excellent performance. It is incredible that just by reading the slides of each
presentation and by studying the photos and videos, I learn and enjoy it
because they are things that I can put to use in my daily life. According to my
group, I like working with my colleagues because they are people who, like me,
like to learn new things besides, we all support each other, and thanks to all
these presentations, we can test each tip and step to improve as people and
apart from being able to have more options to solve problems. In conclusion,
each group did very well and managed to stand out in the presentations, but the
best part was that they taught us new things; the truth is that I really
enjoyed this project.
This is great. I am also glad you are with like people. So awesome!
